All aspects of trip from booking, to asking questions, to checking in and checking out went very smoothly. We’ll be back before long.
Fantastic customer experience. The staff are polite and patient. They take time to explain the boat and answer questions.
They even sat down to review our sailing itinerary and made suggestions based on local weather and sailing experience to ensure we started our week off right!
Boat was in excellent condition. Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.
We had an overall good experience with our charter. The staff were friendly and helpful, the boat was in mostly great shape and the vacation was wonderful!

From start to finish, the Sunsail owner and staff were welcoming, extremely competent, informative and professional. We can’t wait to go back. The boat was in excellent condition and the check-out and sailing guides made our family vacation the best it could be
The whole process is smooth from the start to the finish. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Loved the Catamaran and all the facilities on board.
I have chartered with Sunsail many times, in many destinations. The boats are very clean and in good shape and the base crews are friendly and helpful.

Very helpful and welcoming team at Lefkada marina base. Yacht in very good condition and very well presented. Beautiful area for sailing.
This was my first sailboat charter and it was an amazing and unique vacation.
We have chartered many boats in both West Indies and the Med and whilst older boats can come with issues Brittany’s crew in English Harbour went above and beyond.
We took part in Antigua Race Week during which we were blessed with 25 knots of wind and the boat raced very competitively for all 5 days.
Half the fleet retired but The Sunsail crew kept us racing with daily small repairs enabling us to come third.
Thank you guys and if funds allow we will be back next year.
Sunsail made the process easy from start to finish, from booking to arriving on base and touring the yacht, provisioning, etc.
Everything was great
Condition of cat, mostly in excellent shape
Very professional and a very good fleet
Hat alles sehr gut gapasst.
Very good sailboat and loved the service!
Sunsail has always provided an excellent charter experience for us. We appreciate the product this company provides, and the effort to create a reliable, high-quality sailing vacation.
Sailing the BVI is such a great experience. The Sunsail/Moorings base does a really nice job to complete that experience.
Im Vergleich zu anderen Anbietern hat man einen guten Standard, der nicht enttäuscht wird.
Boat delivery, facilities at Road Town were 5 star.
Friendly crew
Staff was very attentive to our needs and questions.
Boat was beautiful. Staff very helpful. Our friendly skipper was great (Kennle)! He was a a great teacher and delightful.
The instruction provided by Alex Rigal was superb
From the booking of our holiday/competent crew course to the final day everything about sunsail was professional and well organised
Bon bateaux accueil pro
Our charter with Sunsail in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) was an unforgettable adventure. Sunsail’s team provided exceptional service from start to finish, ensuring our catamaran was in top condition for comfort and performance. Sailing through the BVI’s stunning landscapes was breathtaking, and Sunsail’s expertise on the best spots to explore enhanced our experience. We faced a couple of technical issues along the way, but Sunsail’s prompt and efficient response ensured they were quickly resolved, allowing us to enjoy our sailing paradise without interruption. This level of attentive service made us feel highly valued and reassured us of Sunsail’s commitment to an unparalleled sailing experience. The flexibility to tailor our itinerary, combined with the beauty of the BVI and Sunsail’s outstanding service, made our trip magical. We left with memories of adventure, relaxation, and the joy of sailing, looking forward to our next journey with Sunsail.
i have a group of sailing friends and we have been doing a bareboat charters around the world together each year for the last 20 years.
this year we went to Sunsail: Antigua
first let me talk about the base – nelson’s dock yard is a wonderful, protected landing and a nice place to start and end the journey – interesting things to see, easy access to stores to provision and buy souvenirs, lots of fun restaurants to try. the team at sunsail put the boat on and off the dock before handing the boat over (kind of like having a pilot coming into a major harbor), so while our crew may have enjoyed the challenge, we were also fine not having the drama of docking a boat we did not have a lot of experience with.
next antigua – plenty of great sailing detinations – the winds and weather did not disappoint. lots of easy to navigate to anchorages…..just easy and fun and interesting.
the boat – we had a Sunsail 44 with a 4 cabin layout. it was in good working order, clean, intelligently laid out and sailed very nicely. one of the nicest roomiest monohulls for its size.
the team at Sunsail – the team at the base were friendly and helpful and professional. there is a lot more paperwork and explicit focus on safety then in the old days. however the team was thorough in their boat and map briefing and didn’t rush it and took our followup questions and made us comfortable. we enjoyed their smile and enthusiasm seeing us start our charter and their smiles and help winding things up.
another great holiday – thanks Sunsail.
Sunsail is a large operation and has some amenities that we have not seen elsewhere. Nice showers on shore with towels. Three places to eat close by and grocery shopping including a French deli within easy walking range. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Our catamaran was pretty new, very clean, well equipped. Everything worked well. My only complaint was the minimal storage in the cabins.
We modified our itinerary a bit as we went and had a good time. Winds were good and we did most of our traveling under sail. We have some experience sailing but enjoyed experimenting with the sails.
Our only problem with crowds was at the Baths. I would avoid that in the morning when tour groups may be more likely. Didn’t see really colorful coral, etc but I did swim in the midst of 40 or 50 little yellow fish–a thrill for me. S upper at Marina Cay was nice. The Pirate’s Bight was very noisy but I enjoyed the musician and dancing.
BVI is a beautiful, beautiful place.
PS: If you fly to St. Thomas and take the ferry make reservations for the return trip. We did not and the 2 convenient ferries were sold out, though we did get another after a mad dash up the coast.
Amazing sailing week with Sunsail in Tortola. Excellent welcome on the base, well maintained boats, strong winds and overall nice sunny weather, easy mooring on balls, fun sailing on Sunsail Catamaran 40 with all amenities (electricity, air conditioning, etc…), nice restaurants and bar on the islands, unforgettable trip to Anegada, a dream week once again thanks to Sunsail!
We enjoyed a fantastic 8 night bareboat sail around the BVI on a Sunsail 46 from the Sunsail/Moorings marina at Tortola. Having been used to the attention to detail of Sunsail Europe, this was sadly lacking at Tortola. There was no welcoming contact from the base in the weeks leading up to our charter. Our air con wasn’t working, there was no gas in the canister, our Wi-Fi didn’t work and multiple door handles fell off. We wasted our first morning stuck in the base while a whole host of friendly staff worked to fit the problems.
The BVI is very busy in February and on three mornings we had the 7am stress of trying to secure a Boaty Ball mooring at popular locations. These were all booked in 10 seconds! We had prebooked three marinas and all our restaurants which proved a good call.
Our boat itself was excellent with all the major features like sails, engine, generator, tender working well throughout the week. We had some great sailing in the moderate-fresh Easterly Tradewinds and also enjoyed the warm temperatures and water for swimming and snorkelling. We booked a paddleboard but didn’t get to use this due to the significant swells, even at “sheltered” anchorages.
All the Sunsail staff were friendly and helpful and with more care with the preparation and presentation of the boat, this would be a five star review.
The trip exceeded our expectations, but Radge (our captain) MADE the trip! From the start, he asked us our priorities on the trip and what activities we wanted to focus on and he delivered on all of that. There were a couple of us nervous about getting sea sick and there was a storm that came through one of the days, and he changed up the itinerary to get us to a safe place to be for the night that was protected from the high winds. He also dove for conch and made us homemade ceviche, along with homemade tortillas one morning and homemade stuffed jacks another morning! He also took me snorkeling and let me stick with him so he could tell me what I was seeing and pointed out things to me too. He was the highlight of the trip, make sure to request for him!
An outstanding holiday. Wouldn’t hesitate to go again. A few niggles regarding maintenance, the Sunsail damage policy and the completeness/accuracy of the yacht details. Neverthess we have used Sunsail for three trips to the BVIs and have had great holidays each time.
My best friend and recently finished a fabulous week-long trip sailing around the BVI on a beautiful boat booked through Sunsail. Our captain, Rachel Smith, was superb. She handled the boat flawlessly, inspiring complete trust. Her knowledge of the islands led us to the best moorings, restaurants and beaches. She was unfailingly good-natured, and allowed us the time we wanted on the helm–helping us become better sailors and keeping our safety and the boat’s top of mind. Rachel’s motto is “making dreams come true.” She certainly made our vacation in the BVI a dream come true, so we highly recommend Sunsail and Captain Rachel.
Wonderful cays and atolls even if the weather has been often cloudy. We had on board for 6 days a local skipper, Dan, who is a real smart person and made possible to reach anchorages we would not reach without him. He also got fishes and lobsters for us. The Sunsail staff in Placencia is very nice. They always answered our numerous questions and gave us the assistance we needed. The catamaran perfectly corresponds to the description we had when we booked it
Love sailing in the BVIs. Sunsail made our trip very special. The staff was very professional. We had an amazing time
From start to finish, the Sunsail owner and staff were welcoming, extremely competent, informative and professional. We can’t wait to go back. The boat was in excellent condition and the check-out and sailing guides made our family vacation the best it could be
The Sunsail crew in Belize is outstanding. They take pride in taking care of our boat as if it were theirs, which we s not the case in others Moorings and Sunsail bases we have used in the past. They are friendly and respectful. 6 out of 5 rating.
We’ve booked Sunsail Tortola Cats and Monohulls several times over the past 10 years with little issue. The ops base in Roadtown is very well staffed and managed. Our most recent trip, a 42′ Sunsail Cat was good as well. Boat was said to have a watermaker but did not and the cockpit fridge was not working although neither was a deal breaker. Both items were known to Sunsail prior to our accepting the boat. Briefing and debriefing were normal (I am an experienced skipper). The boat was a B+ in condition (in addition to above, the stb engine had a valve cover noise that needed repair, the transom ladder to the water needed repair and the Sunbrella on the jib needed restitching) .
I recommend Sunsail Tortola
Boat experience was amazing as well as the islands we stopped at. Captain was great to sail with, felt safe the whole time.
Awesome vacation in Belize on a beautiful 42’ catamaran. This is our second trip to Belize. Sun sail made everything easy. Diego, Matteo and Renee were so knowledgeable and made sure that we got the most out of our trip.
No problem getting all of our supplies at the local grocery store. We ate many meals on the boat but we found really good restaurants on different islands. Buy your favorite alcohol in Placencia before you leave – it’s hard to come by and expensive on the islands. Stock up on ice whenever you can too.
Dustin and Kim served a fabulous meal at the Hideaway Caye. Ray Caye and South Water Caye also are well worth the visit for overnight mooring with first class dining and easy access to water activities. Definitely book the Monkey River Tour with Rolf. Snorkeling was better than most places we have been to in the Caribbean.
Belize is a beautiful country but we found it’s the Belizean people that make us want to return again and again. They are so friendly and care about “tourists”. BZE airport has made all of our transfers easy.
We bareboat chartered a 42 foot catamaran from Sunsail, Placencia in December 2022 for a week.
It was a fabulous experience!
The boat was in excellent condition, and every motor from the two main engines, to the dinghy, and generator all started on the first try every time.
The dinghy was large enough to accommodate six adults without any problems.
Navigating in the coral waters of Belize can be tricky, but the color chart plotter already had all the anchorages listed as the boat had been everywhere before.
There was a guidebook aboard with sketch charts and sailing directions to get into every possible Anchorage.
The boat was clean inside, and the ships bottom was free of any barnacles or marine growth.
She performed well, we sailed in winds from 10 to 22 mph and never needed to reef the sails. The main has 2 reef points and the jib can roller reef for high winds. Seas were calm as you have to stay inside the barrier reef and are forbidden to go out into the open ocean.
There was an electric windlass for raising and lowering the anchor, and an electric winch for raising the main and sheeting it in.
Both of these worked perfectly.
Both the job and mainsail are self tacking so sailing the boat up wind is effortless.
Our only word of warning is to make sure you get a boat with a 110 Volt water maker.
Our boat had a 12 V water maker and not only was its output very low at only 10 gallons per hour, but we had a lot of problems with it.
The staff was very nice and the pre-departure briefing was very thorough.
It seems like Sunsail and the Moorings are now one company.
I highly recommend them for a bareboat charter in Belize without any reservations
A cracking holiday that I won’t readily forget!
From start to finish there is so much to do and see in the Abacos, from the super friendly local Abaconians to the amazing amount of Marine life at your finger tips.
Never did I think that Sea Turtles would be so common and everywhere you look they are there 😀
Particular highlights:
The Sunsail base team are hard working, professionals who are eager to go the extra mile. Of particular mention thank you Seanna / Travis for arranging the organisation of our vessel. Thank you to Tee / Charlie / Juan for your amazing assistance with yacht preparation and quick technical responses to save our bacon. And finally a big thank you to Anthony our Skipper, he had a lot of local insights to give and was a huge help with the fishing!
Fishing – An absolute must in the Abacos, if you are renting a sail boat there rent a rod and have a laugh! Honestly never thought I would enjoy fishing but I was converted and am now eager to fish at all opportunities. There are many different fish species and it gets exciting battling them in.
Final bit I would say is going to Crab Cay and making sure you have a Stand Up Paddleboard to go in and around the mangroves was a magical experience and a great way to wake up in the morning.
Thanks again to Sunsail for helping us experience a memory I am not likely to ever forget!
PS, the pigs on the beaches love having their bums scratched which was hilarious 😀
We had the Sunsail 454 catamaran for a week in October. I must say the weather was perfect as it was not too hot with only two rain showers for one or two hours. Crab Key is absolutely perfect for a SUP ride. Saw some Eagle rays, sea turtles and baby sharks. Final night we went to Hope Town in and Marina. They had the best tuna steak ever.
I highly recommend this charter base. If you can, get one or two SUP´s and two fishing rods. one for bottom fishing and another one for trawling. It is very likely you will catch a very nice fish.
The base personal and the people of Abacos in general, are such nice and sincere people. Especially considering what they went through with Hurricane Dorian.
5 star rating, and very well deserved!
Thank you for having us,
R. M.
Very satisfied with both the boat and the service! We received the boat in excellent condition &the staff gave very detailed information. We enjoyed our trip n will definitely come back !!!!
Mike Vouradakis has a great team in Marina Zea. Sunsail boat was in great shape and when we had a minor snag it was fixed immediately by their engineering team led by Elias Kouvaris.
A great week sailing!
