A lot of sailing vacations don’t really follow a plan.
You set off in the morning, see where the wind takes you, maybe change course halfway through the day. Stop for a swim somewhere that wasn’t on the map. Stay longer in a place that just feels right.
That’s part of the appeal. You’re not tied to one place, and you don’t need to overthink it.
It’s also why World Ocean Day matters. It takes place every year on June 8, and it’s a reminder that the better shape the ocean is in, the better it is to spend time out there. Cleaner water, healthier reefs, better sailing grounds. It all adds up to a better week.
At Sunsail, that sits behind how we approach things through Our OCEAN Promise. It’s not about changing the experience. It’s about making sure it stays worth doing.

Why it hits differently when you’re sailing
You notice more when you’re on a boat.
You see the color of the water change from one stop to the next. You notice where marine life is active, where anchorages feel untouched, and where things don’t quite feel the same.
World Ocean Day is really just about paying attention to that, and making sure the places we sail through stay that way.
Because a Sunsail trip is built around movement. You’re exploring, stopping, heading off again. The better those places are, the more you get out of it.

Keeping things simple, just done better
A lot of the work happens in ways you probably won’t think about while you’re there.
We’ve been making changes across the fleet to reduce impact without getting in the way of the trip. More efficient systems, electric outboards in the Mediterranean, small upgrades that just make things run better.
You still get what you came for. Award-winning yachts known for their sailing performance and easy handling, so you can focus on where you’re going next, not how things work.
Some of the best changes are the simple ones. On certain yachts, you can refill drinking water straight from the tap. No plastic bottles, no extra planning, just one less thing to deal with during the week.
It also goes beyond the boat. We support conservation work in the destinations we sail in, helping protect the reefs, coastlines, and anchorages you’re moving through.
And then there’s the small stuff. Being a bit more aware of where you anchor, how you manage waste, how you move through each stop. Nothing complicated, just simple habits that make a difference over time.

Not just a one-off
World Ocean Day is a good reminder that this is ongoing.
Our OCEAN Promise is about improving how we run our fleet and how we show up in the places we sail, without changing what a Sunsail vacation is about.
Freedom to move, support when you need it, and a trip that feels like yours.

World Ocean Day – The better it is, the better it sails.
Sailing gives you access to some of the best parts of the ocean, looking after it is part of keeping it that way, because the better it is, the better it sails. Explore Sunsail charters and start planning your next trip on the water.
