The towns and islands you’re most interested in visiting while sailing in Croatia can have an impact on the cost of your charter.

Time of year

The best time to sail in Croatia is June-August; this is when you’ll experience the calmest currents, warmest weather and clearest waters for swimming and snorkelling. Because this is the most popular time to be on the water, yachts book up fast and are likely to be more expensive than chartering during the shoulder season.

Shoulder season (May to early June, September, and October) is when you can minimise costs but still get a great sailing experience. What additional Croatia yacht charter costs do you need to factor in?

As you prepare for your sailing holiday, you also need to budget for several day-to-day living costs, from flights to mooring fees and provisioning.

Many people will allow for an additional 25-50% of the initial charter price to cover these extra costs, although this can be more or less depending on whether all of the added costs apply to you.

Flights and airport transfers

Flights from the UK to Dubrovnik International Airport (DBV) generally range from £40 to £150+ for a round-trip. 

If you need a transfer from the airport, you have two main options:

1. Get the official shuttle from the airport to central Dubrovnik, which is €10 for a single ticket and €15 for a return.
2. Book a taxi from Dubrovnik Airport to the Sunsail base (located at ACI Marina Dubrovnik in Komolac), which costs between €45 and €65 for a standard vehicle.

For a Marina Agana yacht charter, flights from the UK to Split Airport (SPU) range from £40 to £200+, depending on the season. 

The approximate costs of transfers with our third-party partner Lavanda Tours are listed below:

• 1-3 persons, €58
• 4-7 persons, €97
• 8+ persons, €12 per person

If you’re hiring a car, parking is available at Marina Agana for €60 per week (€120 for campers) and must be arranged and paid for at the main reception desk locally.

Local taxes and mooring fees

Croatian Tourism Tax, otherwise known as the Sojourn Tax, costs €1.35 per person per day (with no charge for children under 12), and will be added to your total charter price at the time of booking. 

Mooring fees, meanwhile, are charged in harbours and on town quays by the local municipality. Approximate mooring prices differ for Dubrovnik and Agana, but in general, they vary from 40 EUR for a mooring ball in a small bay for a monohull to 370 EUR for a popular marina for a catamaran.

If you use a restaurant jetty or a mooring buoy, it is usually free of charge, but you are expected to eat at the owner’s restaurant.

Provisioning

As a general rule, you should aim to allocate between £30-£60 per person per day for provisioning, which will ensure everyone has plenty of meals, snacks, and drinks. That said, if food is one of your biggest priorities and you’re eager to try the best local dishes and wine, then we recommend setting aside a little more.

Please note that if you add a skipper to your charter, then you must pre-pay for the skipper’s provisioning when you book.

Fuel

Our Mediterranean bases encourage customers to pre-pay in advance, especially during peak season, due to long lines on return dates.

Gratuity

If you’re on a skippered or flotilla charter, a gratuity is expected and is typically given to the skipper or crew at the end of the charter. The amount is entirely at your discretion.

Itinerary

The overall cost of your yacht charter will also be influenced by your itinerary. If you’re planning lots of island-hopping adventures, excursions and activities, you may need to allocate more to your budget. That being said, anchoring is free so you can enjoy lots of spots on the water for nothing!
