RYA Day Skipper theory course
Overview
Sunsail’s RYA Day Skipper theory course is a fully comprehensive, five-day course, either shore-based in the classroom or online. The classroom course is available from our UK Sailing School in Port Solent, Portsmouth on selected dates throughout the year. The online course is offered through NAVATHOME, which enables you to complete the course online, from the comfort of your own home.
The RYA Day Skipper theory course is a recognised qualification covering chart work, tidal systems, seamanship, meteorology and collision regulations.
The course also deals with coming in and out of the harbour and the factors to consider when looking for an anchorage.
The course aims to teach students how to apply theoretical knowledge to their practical sailing skills and is recommended prior to taking the Day Skipper practical course.

The classroom course is offered over five days, you will gain a full RYA qualification alongside the knowledge and understanding of chart work, seamanship, meteorology and collision regulations. The courses start on Saturday at 9am until 17:00 on the following Wednesday.
The online theory course is delivered by Navathome, a RYA Recognised Training Centre specialising in online training.
The RYA Day Skipper Theory course will illustrate how to safely get in and out of the harbour, as well as the factors to consider when looking for an anchorage.
The online course can be completed in the comfort of your own home with full support from the instructors at NAVATHOME , a pack including the Day Skipper theory course book and practice charts are sent to you once you are registered on the course.

Over five days or 40 hours, you will gain a full RYA qualification alongside the knowledge and understanding of chart work, seamanship, meteorology and collision regulations.
On completion of the course you will have sound knowledge of tidal systems and how to apply your knowledge to your practical sailing skills. You will also have an invaluable insight into how to make decisions on board and stay safe out at sea.
