Sunsail launches new “Hidden Harbours” flotilla itinerary for Lefkas
Yacht charter company Sunsail announces the launch of its new Lefkas flotilla itinerary for 2026. The new “Hidden Harbours” itinerary is set to offer guests weekly departure dates starting from 3 May 2026 throughout the sailing season.

Flotilla Group in Greece

The new flotilla itinerary provides a fresh twist on some of the Ionian’s classic sailing grounds. Starting from the Sunsail base at Lefkas Marina, the seven-day route takes sailors on a beautiful, guided journey through crystal clear waters to enjoy sunset dinners in picturesque mainland villages, snorkelling in secluded island coves, shopping local traditional Grecian towns and more.

Caroline Barbour, UK Marketing Manager for Sunsail, comments; “Everyone at Sunsail is excited to see the launch of the Lefkas Hidden Harbours flotilla itinerary – it’s the perfect way to experience the very best of the Ionian. The sailing grounds are simply world-class, offering calm conditions, stunning scenery, mixed with plenty of time to relax and explore ashore.”

This latest flotilla route offers a serene and scenic sailing experience through some of the Ionian’s most captivating yet lesser-known destinations. Leaving Lefkas Marina on day one, sailors will glide across calm, turquoise waters and enjoy gentle breezes ideal for relaxed cruising. Each stop reveals a different side of Greek island life, from the traditional waterfront charm of Palairos and the peaceful island of Kastos, to the postcard-perfect harbour of Kioni on Ithaca and the tranquil anchorage of Abelike, Meganisi. With short, easy passages between stops, this route balances time on the water with opportunities to swim, snorkel and explore ashore.

Caroline continued; “Because of the calm nature of the local waters and gentle breezes in the region, it’s the perfect itinerary for people who are either new to sailing or simply love sailing in more relaxed waters enjoying the social side of being part of a flotilla. All our flotillas offer the freedom to explore at your own pace while following a carefully crafted itinerary. With the support of our experienced lead crew, including a skipper, host and technician, you’ll enjoy the perfect balance of independence, adventure and expert guidance every step of the way.”

The Seychelles Challenge Returns for 2026

Following a successful debut in 2025, the Seychelles Challenge will return for its second year from 4 – 11 July 2026, inviting sailors from around the world to discover the Indian Ocean’s most spectacular cruising grounds in an unforgettable week of competition, camaraderie, and adventure.

Hosted in partnership with Tourism Seychelles and World Sport, and supported by Sunsail, the Seychelles Challenge blends exhilarating racing with the laidback rhythm of island life. This unique flotilla-style regatta showcases the untouched beauty of Seychelles’ islands, from the granite peaks of Mahé to the powder-white sands of La Digue.

As exclusive charter partner, Sunsail will once again provide its award-winning fleet of catamarans, offering a choice of skippered or bareboat charters. With expert support never more than four hours away, Sunsail makes the Challenge accessible to everyone, from seasoned sailors to those experiencing their first taste of regatta life. Participants can also enjoy curated excursions to explore the beauty and culture of Seychelles, including private tours, gourmet Creole dining, and opportunities to unwind on the island’s pristine beaches.

The unparalleled beauty of the Seychelles

There are few places on earth that offer such a perfect stage for sailing. Gentle trade winds averaging 10–15 knots and calm, predictable waters create ideal conditions for every level of sailor, from first-timers to seasoned competitors. With short passages between islands, each day brings a fresh horizon to explore, including hidden coves, sheltered anchorages, and bays that feel worlds away from the everyday. Along the way, participants will be surrounded by the archipelago’s unmatched beauty, with sweeping white beaches, lush rainforest-clad peaks, and coral reefs bursting with marine life.

Rory Percival, Business Development Manager UK at Sunsail and The Moorings, said: “We were super excited to be the exclusive charter hosts for the inaugural Seychelles Challenge. I attended as our representative and the organisation from start to finish was immaculate and the destination itself was a Robin Crusoe dream come true as a charter escape.

Being part of the inaugural Seychelles Challenge was a dream – perfect sailing, incredible organisation, and unforgettable scenery. For 2026, we’re proud to once again offer sailors the chance to discover Seychelles in true Sunsail style. I certainly look forward to seeing how the event will play out!”

New dates, new horizons

The 2026 edition of the Seychelles Challenge will take place two weeks earlier than last year, delivering gentler trade winds, more sunshine, and ideal sailing conditions. The earlier dates also align with regional public holidays, making the event even more accessible for international crews.

Over seven days and six nights, the fleet will race between pristine anchorages, enjoy locally hosted prize-givings on the beach, and gather for a spectacular closing ceremony at Eden Bleu Hotel. Whether racing hard for line honours or cruising at a relaxed pace, participants will soak up Seychelles’ culture, cuisine, and warm island hospitality.

Participants can either name their team, or the organisers will divide them into teams with experienced skippers, making sure everyone has expert guidance and can experience the race safely.

Justin Clohessy, team member of Bikinis & Bowlines, Seychelles Challenge 2025, said: “We were all very well aware of the Seychelles’ drive to protect their natural assets, which we fully support and admire. This is a spectacular destination. What has been the most amazing is the wonderful sharing of this beautiful part of the world by the locals. We wouldn’t have thought to come here if it wasn’t for this event. It is a beautiful part of the world and we’ve already put our names down for next year!”

Sunsail and RYA bring all-female crew to Cowes Week – spotlighting representation and leadership in sailing

Tuesday’s Women’s Day at Cowes Week 2025 saw a first for leading yacht charter company Sunsail and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), as they fielded an all-female crew to take part in the iconic regatta.

The Sunsail/RYA all-female crew pre race.

The team, made up of women ranging from experienced RYA Yachtmasters to young talent and first-time racers, finished third in the Prometheus 41s class. But the race was about more than just results – it was a celebration of participation, visibility, and the growing role of women in a sport still shaped by tradition.

“This wasn’t about winning – it was about teamwork, confidence, adventure and connection” said Katrina Lawson, Head of Brand and Acquisitions at Sunsail. “Bringing together an all-women crew, led by experienced female skippers, is a powerful reminder that sailing can be open, collaborative, and led by people who don’t always get seen at the helm.”

The Sunsail/RYA team was the only all-female crew in the class. One of those on board was Kitty Williams, a rising talent whose sailing club received support through the joint Sunsail-RYA Funding the Future campaign in 2024.

“I only started sailing three years ago, and I never imagined I’d be racing at Cowes Week so soon,” said Kitty, 20. “It’s not just about the race – it’s about being seen, supported, and part of a crew where everyone brings something to the table.”

Women are sailing – but fewer are leading

Sunsail’s own customer data points a revealing picture. While slightly more women than men sail on Sunsail charters (51% vs 49%), just 7% of lead skippers are women.

“The appetite is clearly there. Women are sailing, training, and contributing at every level,” said Sunsail’s Katrina Lawson. “But too few are stepping into leadership roles as skipper. That’s a conversation we all need to have – across the industry.”

Richard Falk, RYA Director of Training, says: “Achieving greater representation in sailing both on the water and in leadership isn’t something any single organisation can deliver alone. It’s a challenge for the whole community, and one that starts with visibility of role models, of opportunities, and of the many ways people can get involved. We know our sector isn’t always seen as an obvious career path, which is why creating clearer pathways into jobs and training is such a critical part of shifting the system. While there’s more to do, we’re proud of the progress so far and since 2012, nearly a quarter of RYA Day Skipper certificates have been awarded to women. That’s a meaningful shift, and one we’re committed to building on, together with partners across the industry.”

A symbolic step – and a call for more

While the Cowes Week race was a one-off collaboration, both Sunsail and the RYA say it offered an important chance to listen, learn, and celebrate.

“This isn’t the end goal, but it’s a meaningful step,” said Katrina Lawson. “We know real change takes time. But giving visibility to women’s stories and leadership in sailing is something we can all start doing now.”
