Your unforgettable flotilla holiday begins on mythical Lefkas—an island central to Greek mythology, in particular to Homer’s Odyssey. Lefkas is known for its water sports, with windsurfing, kite surfing and paragliding especially popular in the region, while the ancient Venetian fortress of Agia Mavra is always worth a visit.

Spartochori, Meganisi

Spartochori is a charming village on the island of Meganisi, situated on a hillside overlooking the Ionian Sea. Known for its traditional Greek architecture, olive groves, and relaxed atmosphere, this peaceful spot is a favorite for yacht charterers looking to experience authentic Greek island life. Its proximity to Lefkas makes it an easy and beautiful first stop for a flotilla, offering a mixture of nature, culture, and local flavor.

Mooring

Meganisi Port: The port of Spartochori has a small harbor with a few moorings available for yachts. These moorings are typically first come, first served. It’s advisable to arrive early in the day during peak season to secure a spot.

Anchorages: Alternatively, you can anchor off in the sheltered bays around Spartochori, such as Agios Nikolaos Bay, which offers good protection and crystal-clear waters. The anchorage offers peaceful surroundings ideal for swimming and relaxing.

Explore the Village: Wander through the narrow streets of Spartochori with its traditional whitewashed houses, cobblestone lanes, and beautiful sea views. Stop by a local café or taverna to enjoy a fresh Greek meal or a glass of ouzo.

Swim at Agios Nikolaos Bay: This beautiful bay is perfect for a swim in crystal-clear waters. Its peaceful atmosphere offers a great spot to relax.

Hike to the Viewpoints: The village’s hillside location provides excellent hiking opportunities. A short walk up from the village offers spectacular panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and nearby islands.

Visit the Cave of Papanikolis: A short boat trip or hike can take you to the Papanikolis Cave, located on Meganisi’s western coast. It’s famous for its large opening, used by a submarine during World War II.

Kalamos

Today you’ll enjoy a stretch of coastal sailing from Meganisi down to the town and eponymous island of Kalamos. The port is a lovely place to moor, scattered with shops, traditional tavernas, and Greek bars dotted along the harbor and beachfront.

Discover Kalamos Town

Ancient ruins and spectacular views

Take the walk up from the harbour to the ruins of the monastery for fantastic views over the Ionian towards mainland Greece.

 

Suggested lunch spots
Drop anchor in one of the many coves dotted along the north end of Kalamos Island and enjoy swimming in the deep turquoise waters, followed by lunch on deck. Remember to keep your eyes peeled for dolphins.

Vathi, Ithaca

Turn due south out of Kalamos Town, and take on the longest leg of the week, a 20nm reach to Vathi, on the famous island of Ithaca, home to Odysseus. Continue down the coast until you reach a narrow waist 200m across. Navigate through the narrow entrance into the Kolpos Molou Bay, which shelters the little town of Vathi, the capital of Ithaca. Moor up and revel in this center of Greek archaeology, folklore, and culture.

Today is your day to shine. Put your sailing skills to the test and gain confidence on the water with your free sailing day. Set out for the secluded bays and harbours dotted around the Ionian, stopping at sleepy fishing villages along the way or simply relaxing. It’s entirely up to you. No matter what you choose, your lead crew is available to give you top tips and the latest weather reports.

Vlycho

Vlycho is a small, tranquil bay on the southeastern coast of Lefkas, known for its serene waters and stunning natural beauty. A favorite among sailors, Vlycho offers a peaceful retreat from the busier tourist spots, with traditional Greek charm and scenic views of the surrounding islands. It’s an excellent location to unwind after a week of sailing, providing easy access to Lefkas Town and nearby attractions.

Mooring

Vlycho Bay Harbor: The bay has a small harbor with a limited number of mooring spots, suitable for smaller yachts. As it is popular among visiting yachts, it’s advisable to arrive early, especially during peak season.

Anchorages: For those seeking more tranquility, anchoring in the bay itself is a good option. The shallow, calm waters offer great conditions for anchoring, and the surrounding scenery adds to the overall experience.

Relax in the Bay: Vlycho is a perfect spot for relaxing, swimming, and paddleboarding in its calm, clear waters.

Visit the Vlycho Village: The village itself is peaceful, with a few traditional Greek tavernas and cafes offering fresh, local dishes.
