Raiatea Base
Raiatea and Tahaa are two separate islands 120 miles northeast of Tahiti, sharing the same lagoon among the leeward Society Islands. Raiatea is the second largest island of French Polynesia after Tahiti and boasts lush green valleys, stunning waterfalls and pineapple and vanilla plantations.
Sunsail's base is located on the North part of Raiatea island in Marina Apooiti. Marina Apooiti was the first Marina developed on this island. Only five minutes from the airport, you’ll find shops, art, crafts, and restaurants. Neighboring Tahaa has numerous vanilla plantations across the island and Motu Tau Tau is a popular spot for snorkelers.
Cruising notes
Tahaa
The island is enclosed in the same lagoon as its twin sister island, Raiatea. Explore peaceful villages or climb up into the mountains for a spectacular view.
Huaine
Visible from Raiatea, Tahaa, and Bora Bora is the peaceful island of Huaine. Comprised of Huahine Nui (big Huahine) and Huahine-Iti (little Huahine), the two islands are joined by a narrow strip of land enclosed within a protective coral necklace. Off shore ‘motu’ islets lie inside the barrier reef providing luscious gardens for Huahine's watermelon and cantaloupe industry. The lagoon, bordered by white sand beaches, is rich with sea life and the village of Maeva is a wealth of archaeological sites.
Bora Bora
Regarded as the most beautiful island in The Pacific and certainly the most beautiful lagoon in the world, Bora Bora boasts tranquil translucent waters and fascinating marine life. Home to just over 4000 inhabitants, the surrounding motu islets of Bora Bora are the ideal spot for a secluded, romantic honeymoon. Matira beach has white, welcoming sand with warm, shallow waters and the island was the first place to build the widely recognized water bungalows that, like sailing, have become synonymous with French Polynesia.
