BVI Spring Regatta | British Virgin Island Yacht Racing

Overview

March 26th to April 1st 2012

Sunsail is the official sponsor of the International Yacht Club Challenge (IYCC) with great matched racing on Sunsail’s i-range monohulls by Jeanneau! Join the fun!

The BVI Spring Regatta takes you through the best of the beautiful British Virgin Islands. The event now runs across seven days, incorporating both the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival, attracting an average of 150 yachts per year.

The BVI Spring Regatta starts at Nanny Cay Marina with competitors racing up Sir Frances Drake Channel to the famous Bitter End Yacht Club in the North Sound. The event provides 3 days of some of the best racing, entertainment, food, drink & dancing in the Caribbean.

The BVI’s top regatta is sailing in Sir Francis Drake channel and is the third leg of the CORT series with hot competition and superb sailing.  You can participate in the entire 7 day BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival or just the 3 day Regatta.  It began as just an idea.  An idea sparked by a love for the tranquil blue waters of the Virgin Islands, the warm steady breeze of the Trade winds, the picturesque scenery of islands seemingly protruding out of the ocean.  It was the magnificent sight of yachts of all types as they sliced through the waters of the Sir Francis Drake Channel that gave a few “good” sailors that first idea.

In 1973, with the formation of the BVI Yacht Club, the Spring Regatta became a joint effort between the BVI Yacht Club and the Hotel Association.  From its early success the Spring Regatta has grown in size and strength due largely to the support of racing enthusiasts around the world, who return year after year to compete, and the people, businesses and Government of the BVI.  Today, the Regatta is one of the Caribbean’s premier annual racing events.  It has developed a reputation for serious competition and serious partying.

The Regatta is three days of non-stop racing action with divisions for beach cats and yachts with spinnakers and without spinnakers.  The Regatta is also three days and nights of pure fun.

Before, during and after the races the Regatta Village takes on a carnival-like atmosphere with food, drinks, games, dancing and other forms of entertainment for landlubbers and yachtsmen who converge to eat, drink and make merry.

Racing enthusiasts who have experienced the BVI Spring Regatta return year after year and they all agree that you have not sailed until you sail the waters of the BVI.
