Sailing Conditions

The waters of the southern Ionian Sea are well-protected and the seas generally flat, with conditions in the northern Ionian slightly more demanding.  During the cruising season of April to October, sailors can expect blue skies and warm weather. 

From June ‘til September, the evenings are long, the sunsets spectacular, the winds gentle with occasional gusts and the seas generally calm. 

In high season, water temperatures average 80 F (27 C).  Winds are generally north-westerly, increasing in the afternoons and ranging from 5 – 20 knots (5 – 23 mph). These tend to die out in the evening.  The tidal range is minimal, between 1 - 2 feet (30 - 60 cm).
