A bareboat sailing vacation in the Sporades from Sunsail’s base at Milina takes in the protected waters of the Gulf of Volos, as well as the seas surrounding the Sporades Islands where it is windier, especially in summer.
During the cruising season of April to October, the skies are cloudless and the weather warm. In mid-summer, water temperatures average 80 F (27 C) and sailors can look forward to enjoying long evenings and glorious sunsets.
Winds are generally good from midday to early evening, averaging 10 – 20 knots (11-23 mph), but in July and August the Meltemi wind from the north east accounts for stronger winds.
Tidal currents are minimal with a tidal range of only 12 - 18 inches (30 - 45 cm).
