General Conditions

The British Virgin Islands’ location in the Lesser Antilles in the northeast Caribbean is one of the finest and most protected sailing areas on the planet. A yacht charter here offers the opportunity for easy deep-water island hops between plentiful sheltered anchorages. Steady, comfortable trade winds are from the north-east in winter, ranging from 15 - 25 knots (17 – 28 mph), moving to the south-east in summer, ranging from 10 – 15 knots (11 – 17 mph).

There can be occasional strong ‘Christmas’ winds. The tidal range is approximately 12 - 18 inches (30 - 45 cms. This is a destination for sailors with a basic competence and some previous experience.
