Sunsail Professional Academy
At our unique Academy, we believe in not only training Skippers but also in developing their careers.
Our 3 year course enables you to gain the essential industry qualifications whilst building your sailing experience across a range of Sunsail bases.

Cost of Yachtmaster Course
£ 6000£ 1500 returned to student at end of Year 2
Package includes:
• Full board for the duration of the YM course
• All RYA fees
• Mooring fees and yacht running costs
During periods between training courses students will be offered paid seasonal employment in one of FCM’s worldwide bases.
Whilst completing your initial training you will benefit from Sunsail’s world class facilities at Port Solent including our Sunfast 37 training yachts, a shore side classroom and full marina services
All courses run with a maximum of 4 students per yacht with one Instructor. Whilst based at Port Solent students will have the option of their own cabin on an alternative yacht.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for sailing and water sports enthusiasts who want to build a career in the yacht charter industry.You’ll need to be a good team player and prepared to work hard to reach your goals.
You’ll need to know the basics but be hungry to learn more and gain your qualifications.
If you already hold an RYA Yachtmaster then we’d like to hear from you. We are currently recruiting for Flotilla Skippers to work out of our yacht bases in the Mediterranean.
Additional Information
- You will sail approximately 1500 miles during the initial 9 week course taking you up to coastal skipper level.
- Each candidate will have allocated time to practice all aspects of the course. There will be a yacht available outside course time to practice or hone any manoeuvres that may be proving difficult to master.
- Living aboard your yacht you will be expected to victual, cater and cook for other members of the crew including your instructor.
- You will be encourages to develop to develop an ability to deal with the unexpected and explain to others in a client friendly way.
