Listen to the bobbing yachts as you sit at one of the many waterside restaurants that line the popular Boardwalk and simply relax. Watch a film at the multiplex cinema or mingle through the shops and chandleries before heading off in search of adventure.
Within walking distance is Portchester Castle, an impressive and well-preserved Roman Saxon shore fort. Built in the late third century, there’s an exhibition, which interprets the history of the castle and displays excavated finds from the site.
A short drive away, you’ll find yourself in the heart of historic Portsmouth. This grand naval town is a striking contrast between old and new. Take the time to visit the home of the Royal Navy and its most famous warships as you go aboard, traveling back in time at the Historic Dockyards. Even the modern day yachtsman can’t deny the splendor of the world’s oldest warship, commissioned by Lord Nelson for the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Victory.
Once you’ve had your cultural fix head over the regenerated Gunwharf docks with its designer outlet shops, and fantastic bars and restaurants that offer something to tempt all taste and budgets. A visit here can’t be without a trip to the landmark Spinnaker Tower, standing a dizzyingly 558 feet high. From the top viewing deck you’ll get an unrivaled view out across the Solent towards the Isle of Wight.
