The home of UK yachting, Cowes, located on the Isle of Wight, is best known for Cowes Week, the world’s largest sailing regatta of its kind held here every August. Whilst Cowes Week is the highlight of the year, the spirit of the regatta lives on in this vibrant town. A haven for yachting enthusiasts, everything about this place has a nautical theme. From the narrow pedestrianised streets, lined with boutique shops, art galleries and maritime museums to the lively bars and restaurants, there’s something to keep even the most veteran visitor intrigued.
Blessed with a butcher, two bakers, a fishmonger, greengrocer, delicatessen and a few supermarkets; there’s plenty of choice of ingredients for a fine supper all within minutes of your boat. If you fancy dining ashore, you won’t be disappointed either. There’s a fantastic choice of brasseries and restaurants to choose from to satisfy all appetites.
You can get your culture fix by nipping across to East Cowes via the chain ferry floating bridge and visit Osborne House, once the summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. This stately and lavishly furnished holiday home offers gorgeous views out across the Solent, peaceful surroundings and delightful gardens. To explore further why not hop onto one of the Islands traditional open topped buses and visit the golden sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown on the opposite side of the Island.
