A unique landmark, this 18th century shipbuilding village has been so well preserved that you may think you’ve stumbled across a period film set. Once a free port for the trading of sugar from the West Indies, the village went on to become more famous for the building of Nelsons warships for the Battle of Trafalgar. Now a living maritime museum, it stands as a remarkable testament to the heritage that was once here.
Head back to your yacht and jump in the dinghy to travel further upstream to the ancient and unique village of Beaulieu. Located deep in the heart of the New Forest National Park and home of the Montagu family, Beaulieu is famous for its National Car Museum and stately Palace House. With some intriguing trinket shops, quaint tearooms and a quintessentially English pub the atmosphere here is quiet and laid-back. In fact the pace of life here is so relaxing that it’s not out of place to see some of the New Forest ponies, strolling around its narrow streets. For the chance to truly remiss over a bygone era, a trip to Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard should stay firmly on your itinerary.
