Lonely Beach or Haad Thanam is a long, beautiful beach located on Koh Chang.  Over a decade ago, the attraction for foreigners was that this small bay had a beautiful sandy beach and could only be reached by foot via a trail over the hill from Kai Bae.  The beach was revered by backpackers due to its isolation and therefore was fondly awarded the name ‘Lonely Beach’.

Lonely Beach is located in the northern part of Bai Lan Bay, situated on the southern end of the west coast, separated from Kai Bae Beach in the north by a large wooded hill.  The northern part of the beach consists of fine, white sand while the southern section is stony.  Visitors will experience a beach very different to that which greeted backpackers.  The area has now been developed and is home to four resorts, as well as numerous bars, restaurants and dive centers.  However the charm of the area has not been lost, with beautiful views greeting visitors.
