Koh Bulon Leh Yacht Charters

Party animals need not apply, as you will not find an ounce of entertainment on any of the Koh Bulon group of islands.  These islands are almost completely untouched by tourism, except for a few small bungalow resorts that have started to appear along the clean, golden beach of Bulon Leh.

The inhabitants of the island are known as chao leh – “people of the sea” or “sea gypsies” originating from Indonesia and were granted by the governor of Thailand’s Satun province the right to settle there in the early nineteenth century.  Take walking boots and binoculars as the island is perfect for hiking and for bird watching.

There are no cars and only a few mopeds so your legs are the only means of island transportation.  Mango Beach on the south of the island is a small fishing community and worth a visit.  A great place to eat fresh baguettes or an evening meal is Su’s place and nearby Mimis where you can get a filled crepe for a mere 25 baht. Make your way to a café/bar called Bong Hill, home to a group of expert Batik artists – a  perfect spot to relax and drink cocktails in the evening. The three other islands (Don, Mai Pai, Rang) are very small and sparse.

One thing that all these islands have in common are the beautiful white sand beaches especially Mai Pai offering excellent snorkelling opportunities.   The waters are clear and the fish in abundance.  The shore based wildlife is also not to be sniffed at, kingfishers, eagles, lizards and hornbills to name but a few.  There are no means of obtaining cash on the islands, so be prepared before you visit.
