If a tropical destination is an essential requirement of your yacht charter, then you are in the right place on Ao Pante Koh Tarutao. The bay of Ao Pante is located on the northwestern coast of Koh Tarutoa and is where you will find the most life on any of the Taratuo islands as this is the National Parks headquarters, with offices, a library, visitor center (where you will get a free map and info sheet), small shop, a basic restaurant and traditional bamboo long houses as well as a small cold beer for less than 30 baht – can’t be bad.
The island itself is a big, mountainous rainforest covered island and was once the where Thai political prisoners were locked up, and some notable ones too. It is 100% National Park and is known as one of the better places to really get off the beaten track, and for the reality show kings and queens amongst you it was the location for the series Survivor.
The island boasts beautiful long white sand beaches where you are bound to find one all to yourself. Snorkel or swim around the warm tropical waters of the Andaman Sea. For the more inquisitive head toward the forests where you can explore caves, waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints. Nature is well preserved and simply spectacular on the island, with gibbons, eagles, wild pigs, and hundreds of other birds and insects. Only 8kms south of Ao Pante is where you can see turtles nesting from September to April.
