Datca

The town of Datca is made up of a single high street (less than a mile long!) that meanders between two sheltered bays separated by a hillock and a narrow isthmus that terminates in a cape. Its roots date back to the 7th century BC when Sparta established a settlement on the site, and later it was the original site of Knidos. Datca has two beaches – the east, known locally as Kumluk, is hard-packed sand and the quieter beach to the west is mixed pebble and sand.

The town has great facilities for visiting charterers – there are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants to choose from – and you should aim to get there early in the summer months. Despite the number of yachts that stop here, Datca remains a pleasant spot and its good facilities will be welcomed by those who have been cruising the remoter anchorages of the Gulf of Gokova on their Datca yacht charter. If you’re in search of more action, there are regular buses in to Marmaris from Datca.
