Bestas Limani Cold Water Bay

The island of Gemiler Adasi lies a short distance off the Lycian Coast.  You can anchor off the island at the western end of the channel separating it from the mainland on a Bestas Limani Cold Water Bay yacht charter. On the slopes there are the remains of some Byzantine buildings and some scattered mosaics.

The bay to the east of the island has several small coves which make for idyllic anchorages – Bestas Limani is probably the most beautiful of them all, with rushing white surf and dazzling blue water.  In days gone by, Bestas Limani was a popular refuge of the marauding pirates who plied their dastardly trade along this stretch of the coast as recently as the 19th century.

Due to the numerous cold water springs that flow into the sea from the Taurus Mountains above, this area is best known to local sailors as Cold Water Bay and swimming here is definitely an invigorating experience. Jumping into the water from the rocks is a popular activity and hikers can walk to the abandoned village of Kayakoy, abandoned in 1923 by agreement between Greece and Turkey. It’s a ghost town now, its buildings crumbling as the forest encroaches.
