Capri

Is there anywhere on Earth that conjures up such a picture of quintessential glamour as the Island of Capri? The island is picture-postcard beautiful with sheer limestone cliffs, rocky outcrops and steep hills that rise up out of impossibly blue water that appears as you approach the island.

Once you step ashore, you’ll be seduced by the microcosm of Mediterranean appeal including cafes, elegant piazzas, chi chi boutiques, Roman ruins and rugged seascapes, that has been attracting sophisticated visitors for generations. With views out over the Bay of Naples and Sorrento, Capri Town and Anacapri are both  great locales offering fashionable shops and restaurants, but also an exploration of hiking trails and the often overlooked western coast's landscape of unspoiled rural charm.

The Grotta Azzurra may be Capri’s most famous and most tourist-ridden sight, but be sure not to miss it! The memory of the delicate blue light is something that will linger long after you return home. The ruins of Villa Jovius, retirement home to Tiberius, is another must-see. Tacitus and Suetonius wrote of the scandalous goings-on here.

Back in Capri Town, the cafes of Piazza Umberto are the places to see and be seen, or perhaps just to sit back and watch this world of chic pass you by. Marina Grande is where all the watersports action happens and from here, diving trips can be arranged.
