Levanzo is the smallest of the islands in the Egadi archipelago and because it has no fresh water is inhabited by only a handful of people. The ancient rock carvings at the Grotto del Genovese are the main tourist attraction. Mesolithic and Neolithic etchings were painted on the walls using animal fat and carbon.  They include a representation of a tuna, proving that the importance of the fish to the local fishing industry is nothing new.  The cave can be visited by sea on a Levanzo yacht charter.
