North Bay Pelagos

The island of Pelagos – also known as Kira Panayia – lies to the north east of Alonissos.  Except for some herds of goats and cows, a few horses, a large black bull and a guardian, it's a deserted isle.  A number of sunken Byzantine ships have been discovered off the coast and some pottery fragments have also been found on the island.

The island is now a nature reserve and forms part of the marine reserve that is there to protect the rare Mediterranean Monk Seal and other marine life.  North Bay is a large landlocked bay on the north side of the island that makes for a tranquil stopover on a North Bay Pelagos yacht charter. You and a few other visiting charterers are likely to have the place to yourself – except for the animals who call this remote place home.

Mooring:

  • Anchor in either of the two forks of the bay.
  • The north east corner of the southernmost part of the bay is a favoured spot. Here you can anchor in 10 – 20 feet (3 – 6 meters)  and get excellent all-round shelter.
  • The bottom is clay and mud with some weed and the holding is good.

To Do:

  • Watch out for Mediterranean Monk Seals
