Sipan

Sipan is the largest of the populated Elaphite Islands which lie off the Adriatic coast close to Dubrovnik – the others are Kolocep and Lopud.  On the way to Sipan, stop perhaps at Lopud for a swim at Sunj with its pristine white sand beach. Sipan is known as ‘The Golden Island’. The development of a tourism industry in the Elaphites has been measured and low-key and the islands remain a great place to get away from it all, with just enough in the way of facilities to make sure that visitors on a Sipan yacht charter are looked after and don’t get bored.

The geography of Sipan is that of a long, fertile plain surrounded by craggy hills. There are a few small hamlets dotted around the island, with Sudurad being the main port and Sipanska Luka the main settlement. On a circumnavigation of the island, you will find anchorages at Misnjak and Uvala Tiha, where you might stopover for swimming and snorkeling when the weather is settled.

Mooring:

  • At Misnjak, anchor in 19 feet (6 meters) where the bottom is sand and weed.
  • At Uvala Tiha, there is a narrow inlet facing the north-west, where it is possible to anchor and take a line ashore. The bottom is sand and weed.

To Do:

  • Rent a bike and explore the island
  • Hike from Sipanksa Luka to Sudurad

Facilities:

  • Basic provisions
  • Bars and restaurants
