Gosier is the most developed tourist resort in Guadeloupe. The coastline is made up of a series of scalloped coves, each with its own beach and a range of watersports facilities with everything from windsurfing equipment to Hobie Cats available for hire.
Just 600 meters off Gosier village is lovely L’Ilet du Gosier, a tiny undeveloped island surrounded by calm turquoise waters with good snorkeling spots and attractive beaches. There is a lovely anchorage here with just 10 moorings and a lazy afternoon spent anchored here, enjoying the swimming, snorkeling and sunshine, will appeal to those who seek a reatreat from the lively scene of Gosier itself.
At night, Gosier comes into its own with a terrific selection of bars and restaurants. You can choose between the main hotel area with its Creole Village shopping center and the cheaper and more authentic options in Gosier village itself. Le Bord du Mer has excellent seafood and Restaurant de l’Auberge de la Vieille Tour is the place to go for fine dining and classic French and Creole cuisine. Perhaps the best eating to be found in Gosier is at the eclectically decorated Quatre Epice in the village, where le tour d’ile – a sampler plate featuring stuffed crab curry, fish pate, accra and boudin – comes highly recommended. Gosier has plenty of nightclubs catering to a young, trendy crowd.
Most of the smart hotels along the beach have live music, but you’ll find other options in the village. La Route de la Biere has 60 different beers on offer as well as pizza for soakage, Friday-night karaoke, Saturday-night dancing and a pool table. The Amazon has salsa dancing on Tuesdays and La Cheyenne, Gosier’s massive disco, keeps the music pumping out into the early hours.
