An Anse la Barque Yacht Charter or Flotilla brings you to the north-western tip of island of Basse-Terre where the landscape is rocky, with roads snaking along the top of towering cliffs. The surfing at the wonderful beach of Anse la Barque (also known as Grande Anse) attracts both locals and tourists. The waves break close to the shore and are not particularly large so the surfing is ideal for beginners and body-boarders.
There has been very little development here in the way of hotels but there are plenty of beachside cafes for when you’ve built up an appetite on the water. Just south of Anse la Barque is the harbourside village of Deshaies, surrounded by green hills. The village is something of a mecca for visiting sailors and there is plenty on offer in terms of places to eat and hang out.
Dive shops and deep-sea fishing boats operate from the pier here. It’s said that the food in Deshaies is the best on the island. Some of the options worth checking out include the tapas at Barbuto (which has another branch in New York City), Le Coin des Pecheurs and the chic L’Amer. La Note Bleue in the south end of town is the bar where the sailing set tends to congregate.
