Prickly Bay

Prickly Bay (also known as L’Anse aux Epines Bay) is the most central of the many anchorages along the southern coast of Grenada. The Spice Isle, as Grenada is sometimes referred to, is a leading producer of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace and nutmeg and has also pioneered the cultivation of organic cocoa. Be sure to stock up with some tasty treats from the Grenada Chocolate Company before you leave!

The coastline is deeply indented and surrounded by reefs. The entrance to  Prickly Bay is wide and open, but watch out for the reefs on the east side of the bay as well as one in the middle of the harbor that is too shallow to cross over at low tide. The Spice Island Marina has a good dinghy dock or you can anchor closer to the mouth of the harbor in front of the Rendezvous Beach Resort. Prickly Bay is surrounded by pretty houses with manicured lawns and the town has a chandlery, numerous shops, bars and restaurants catering to the yachting community.

The Tiki Bar in Prickly Bay Marina is the best place to grab pizza; it also has a fuel dock, water and internet connection. There are good beaches nearby too. Grand Anse Beach in St. Georges often appears on the list of the top ten beaches in the world. A Prickly Bay Charter allows you to explore the rest of Grenada as you can reach the island's other places of interest, including Concord Falls and the fabulous open-air market in St. Georges, by bus, taxi or on foot.
