While the coastline of Grenada is one of the most beautiful you will see in the Caribbean, the interior of this amazing island is also spectacular. The rainforests of the Grand Etang Nature Reserve are undoubtedly the most popular area for hiking on the island.
Located just 8 miles from St Geroges, Grand Etang is within easy reach of sailors setting out from Sunsail’s base. The Grand Etang Lake is without doubt the main focal point, filling one of the craters of the islands extinct volcanoes. The rainforest surrounding the lake is stacked full of the most diverse and rich flora and fauna, and the wildlife is just as varied.
This area is renowned for its rare orchids that are scattered among some of the more common vegetation. There are a series of hikes and trails available, ranging from an easy 15 minute jaunt to a more rigorous trek. The trails are well set out and can be tackled alone or with a guide. The Ridge and the Lake Circle Trails are both popular and will take you along the parameter of the Grand Etang Lake.
The Concord Falls are an amazing site and worth visiting to cool off at the base of the falls.
