Spanish Town Virgin Gorda

Spanish Town was the capital of the British Virgin Islands until Road Town on Tortola took over in 1742. The town is located in the south-western part of the island, separated from Little Dix Bay by Cow Hill and known locally as The Valley. It’s a popular stop over on a British Virgin Island yacht charter, offering a good range of bars and restaurants, as well as shops selling everything from essential provisions to local arts and crafts.

The Little Fort National Park is a 26-acre wildlife sanctuary and the Aquarium dive and snorkel site, also known as Fischer’s Rocks, is ideal for beginners. The shallow reef is comprised of sponge and coral-covered rocks and you can expect to see sergeant majors, French grunts and blue tang amongst its underwater grottos as well as morey eels and nurse sharks taking a snooze beneath a quiet ledge.  Make sure to use a dive flag and watch for boat traffic. The Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour complex has good marina facilities.
