Peter Island

Peter Island is the largest island in the BVI and lies between Virgin Gorda and St. John. There are three excellent anchorages here as well as a full-service marina attached to the elegant Peter Island resort. Yacht charterers are welcome to use many of the facilities of the resort including the Beach Bar and Grill.  Anchor at Deadman’s Bay, a spectacular, mile-long, crescent-shaped beach of pristine white sand overlooked by towering coconut palms. It's said to be one of the 10 most romantic beaches in the world.

There's good snorkeling here over the seagrass beds and if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of the Green Sea Turtle that inhabits the beach. Barbecues and dancing are a regular occurrence. On Sundays you'll hear the sounds of a local steel band blasting out those authentic Caribbean tunes, while Monday nights are famous for moko jumbee dancers. From the beach, hike to the highest point on the island where you'll find spectacular views. En route to the next stop on your Peter Island boat charter, check out the famous Wreck of the Rhone – a Royal Mail steamship that sank in 1867. Located off of Salt Island, this is one of the best diving sites in the British Virgin Islands as the ship is still in very good condition. Its now home to a fascinating array of corals and an eye-popping number of tropical fish.

Peter Island and its neighbor, the uninhabited Dead Chest Island, offer an incredible variety of diving and snorkeling sites that would keep any diving enthusiast satisfied. When you’ve had enough marine activity, surface for air at one of the island's numerous casual beach bars and restaurants for a relaxing drink or meal.
