Sunsail Responsible Tourism - Charity

Sunsail is involved with a number of charities and non-profit organisations as part of our commitment to give something back to the markets and destinations from which we operate.  A customer contribution of £1 per passenger is matched by Sunsail and split to support both families effected by cancer (Sail for Cancer) and also environmental initiatives with The Green Blue organisation.

Sail 4 Cancer
Sail 4 Cancer is a charity which uses sailing and other water-based activities as vehicles for both convalescence and fund raising to support those families effected by cancer. From short gentle trips through to watersports holidays, Sail 4 Cancer give families living with cancer the opportunity to escape from the reality of their everyday lives, albeit just for a short time. The vast majority of the people Sail 4 Cancer take out on the water have never tried watersports before. Sail 4 Cancer also makes grants in support of palliative care and research.

The Green Blue
The Green Blue is the joint environment programme of the British Marine Federation (BMF) and Royal Yachting Association (RYA). It aims to promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters for everybody who enjoys getting out on the water, or whose livelihood depends on boats and watersports by raising everybody’s awareness of how to be environmentally responsible. The Green Blue also encourages the design and production of innovative environmentally friendly products and services within the recreational marine industry.

Sports Relief Sail a Mile
In March 2010 we organised the first ever ‘Sail A Mile” event to get sailors and non sailors alike, out on the water to raise funds for TUI Travel’s Sport Relief. We took 15 of our Sunsail yachts to Gunwarf Quays in Portsmouth and got over 100 people sailing, raising £2100 for Sport Relief in the process to support the Sport Relief initiative.

Activity Charity Day
As part of our Responsible Tourism drive, all Sunsail employees are now entitled to an extra day off to support a charitable cause and make a difference. With our teams working from bases all over the world, we aim to make a real difference both at home and abroad.
